AMMAN — As police continue to tackle drug dealing across the Kingdom, a “most wanted”, armed drug trafficker was arrested in the Southern Badia, and large quantities of illicit drugs were seized in the Nothern Badia, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) announced on Tuesday.

The PSD spokesperson, in a statement, said that large quantities of illicit drugs were also seized while suspected dealers attempted to escape from the Al Ruwaished region and hide the substances in the Nothern Badia.

The PSD received reports indicating that large quantities of drugs were hidden in a rugged desert area in the northern desert, the spokesperson said, noting that a raid on the area led to the arrest of an individual in possession of 1,600 palm-sized sheets of hashish and approximately one million narcotic pills.

Work is underway to arrest the others involved in the case, the spokesperson noted.

In the other operation, the spokesperson said that an armed, “most wanted” individual, who allegedly has a considerable role in the drug trade, was caught in the Southern Badia while trying to transport narcotics to Karak.

The suspect, who used his firearm during the arrest, was found in possession of seven palm-sized sheets of hashish and 4,000 narcotic pills, all of which were seized in addition to his firearm, the spokesperson noted.
