Police investigating suspected murder, suicide attempt

AMMAN — The Criminal Investigation Department on Sunday said that a woman in her 50s died after being shot by her husband, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

South Amman’s police department received information at dawn about an injured couple found lying near a main street and its investigators were sent to the scene, Petra reported.

The couple was taken to the nearest hospital, where the woman succumbed to her injuries while the husband was reported to be in critical condition, the Public Security Department’s (PSD) media office said.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the man shot his wife then himself, according to the PSD.

The firearm used in the shooting was found at the scene and sent to the crime lab along with other collected samples for further examination, the department noted, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
