AMMAN — The Maan detention and rehabilitation centre on Tuesday held an Iftar banquet for the facility’s inmates and their families, as part of the “One Body" initiative launched by the Public Security Department (PSD) earlier during Ramadan.
In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the Maan corrective facility’s administration said the aim of the Iftar is to strengthen the sense of solidarity in Ramadan among the inmates.
Facility Director Col. Mamoun Olaimat said that the PSD, through this humanitarian gesture, hopes to reunite inmates with their loved ones in the holy month.
The aim, he continued, is to further the sense of belonging and community and help with the rehabilitation and reintegration process by including them in social, national and religious occasions.
Commander of the PSD’s southern region Brig. Ammar Qudah attended the inmates’ banquet, along with Maan Deputy Governor Badr Abu Tayeh, Maan Chief of Police Col. Abdul Rahman Harazneh and a number of senior officers and officials.
The inmates’ Iftar entailed a number of activities and artistic sketches, according to Petra, including a special segment on the dangers of narcotics.
Speaking at the banquet, Qudah underlined that the initiative highlights the values of law enforcement within human rights, respect for the citizenship and common decency in dealing with inmates and citizens alike.
He noted that the Iftar, and PSD's initiative as a whole, is an extension of Islamic heritage and the practices of Prophet Mohammad.
Qudah added that rehabilitation facilities all over Jordan are holding such events to strengthen the values of unity and solidarity in society.
Meanwhile, the Gendarmerie Directorate organised another banquet in honour of active gendarmerie forces, retirees and the relatives of fallen and injured officers.
During the Iftar, department director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh recalled the sacrifices of fallen and injured security personnel.
Hawatmeh voiced pride in the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah and appreciation for his relentless efforts to safeguard the Kingdom.
He reiterated unity and absolute solidarity in support of His Majesty and his stances.
“We recall the sacrifices of our martyrs proudly and the lives lain on the line by all in devotion to the homeland, its security and stability,” Hawatmeh said.
The gendarmerie will spare no effort in caring for its personnel, retirees and the families of the fallen men, he reiterated.
Under directives of His Majesty, the department will always be home to all its personnel and their families and the fortress defending the country, Hawatmeh affirmed.
Attendees among the families of the fallen and injured gendarmerie personnel expressed their pride in the sacrifices of the brave, Petra said.
The banquet is part of a series of meets the gendarmerie director is holding with units and formations of the Gendarmerie Directorate across Jordan.
