AMMAN — Police confirmed that four people have been arrested for allegedly killing a Gendarmerie officer in Maan in August.
Public Security Department Spokesperson Major Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times that investigation was still under way and declined to give any further information about the detainees or their motives.
The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and named a fifth accomplice, who is still at large.
Second Lieutenant Nart Nafesh, 23, was part of a patrol guarding a post in Maan city, some 220km south of Amman, when a group opened fire with machine guns at 4:45am on August 4.
Over the past few months, several instances of unrest have been recorded in Maan following the death of one person and the injury of a dozen others during police raids to detain wanted persons.
