PM says more measures in pipeline to realise fiscal reform

AMMAN — More laws, regulations and procedures are in the pipeline to achieve fiscal reforms, Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said. His remarks came during a workshop organised by the Ministry of Finance and in collaboration with USAID-funded Public Finance and Public Administration Reform Project.

The workshop, held on Tuesday, aimed at improving tax administration, developing the efficiency of tax collection and fighting tax evasion, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Razzaz underscored the “right timing” of the workshop to identify the challenges that public finance is currently facing.

In remarks to the press, Finance Minister Ezzeddine Kanakrieh stressed that participants in the workshop sought to determine the most workable recommendations and the necessary measures to fight tax evasion, noting that the newly endorsed Income Tax Law focused on these mechanisms, which include an electronic billing system.

Kanakrieh added that the tax system, sales tax and customs duties were discussed, along with a plan to revisit these systems, in addition to the Investment Law, particularly the provisions governing tax exemptions offered to investors.
