PM, GCC secretary general reaffirm commitment to enhance cooperation

AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Nayef Al Hajraf on Tuesday reiterated deep ties between Jordan and member states of the GCC, expressing keenness on advancing cooperation in various fields. 

Khasawneh, during a meeting at the Prime Ministry, highlighted that the Kingdom’s relations with the member states of the GCC is based on constants dedicated to serve Arab issues, foremost of which is supporting the Palestinian cause to ensure the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The premier also valued member states of the GCC’s efforts towards supporting Jordan to face economic challenges and enhance development plans, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Highlighting the “common horizons” for cooperation in all fields, Khasawneh emphasised the importance of institutionalising collaboration for the best interests of both sides, as well as activating joint task forces to strengthen cooperation. 

He also extended congratulations for the outcomes of Al Ula Summit, highlighting the reconciliation agreement's contributions to serving Arab interests and enhancing Arab joint action.

Hajraf, for his part, reiterated the deep relations between Jordan and member states of the council, stressing keenness on putting cooperation within a strategic and institutional framework.  

He also drew attention to the importance of the 15 joint task forces that cover various aspects of cooperation, notably in priority sectors, including agriculture, food security, health, transport and economic cooperation.

The Palestinian cause and supporting Palestinians legitimate rights to ensure the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is a priority for the member states of the GCC, Hajraf said.
