AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Omar Razzaz on Wednesday chaired the first meeting of the advisory council for economic policies, which was formed in implementation of Royal directives.
The council was designated to offer a comprehensive vision for the recovery of the national economy in the medium and long terms amid the global coronavirus crisis.
During the meeting, held at the Prime Ministry with the participation of a number of members via videoconference, talks covered priorities for the upcoming stage to help economic sectors overcome the challenges posed by the current crisis, as well as means to optimise the available opportunities for recovery and strengthening the economy.
Razzaz, the council’s chairman, said that the council’s aim is to streamline the work of the public and private sectors and civil society organisations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that the council’s role and tasks will be implemented through three stages. The first is related to protecting people’s health, while the second stage examines citizens’ living and economic conditions. The third stage focuses on recovery and economic strength, he said.
Razzaz also referred to a meeting held earlier in the day with governors and mayors, noting that a number of field advisory committees have been formed to educate citizens on ways of covering their businesses with social security.
Highlighting the importance of social security coverage for employers and employees alike, he announced that since the Social Security Corporation launched its app for registering establishments on Monday evening, a total of 3,500 institutions have registered.
