Planning Ministry signs MoU with Association of Banks

AMMAN — Planning and International Cooperation Minister Nasser Shraideh and Chairman of the Association of Banks in Jordan (ABJ) Bassem Al Salem signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday.
As per the memo, the Department of Statistics (DoS), in cooperation with the ABJ, will implement a project for improving the quality and comprehensiveness of statistical results of the banking sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The DoS will conduct specialised surveys to improve the quality of data pertaining to the banking sector in accordance with the best international standards, Shraideh said, adding that under the agreement, the ABJ will be provided with information and data to improve the banking sector's contribution to the national accounts in line with the legislation in force in order to keep abreast of economic developments and changes.
He added that the project to support the centralised repository of national financial data, adopted by the Planning Ministry, will provide users, including the private sector, with data in accordance with the latest methodologies and recommendations of the UN and other international organisations.
Lauding the partnership, Salem highlighted the importance of the new cooperation in offering a database that shows the banking sector's contributions in all economic aspects.
