AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh on Thursday met with Director General of the Middle East at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Volker Oel to discuss furthering cooperation during the upcoming period.
Shraideh expressed the government's thanks to the German government for the assistance it provided to Jordan, which contributed to the implementation of many priority development projects, especially in the sectors of water, education, training and vocational and technical education, in addition to its assistance in meeting the needs of the communities hosting Syrian refugees, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing a Planning Ministry statement.
Shraideh indicated that Germany’s support reflects understanding of the challenges facing the Jordanian economy at this stage and its willingness to stand by Jordan as a “reliable partner” through its commitment to providing financial and technical assistance.
The German official also stressed that the continuity of support for Jordan is among the priorities of the German government, stressing maintaining the flow of developmental and humanitarian aid and support for the communities hosting refugees.
He added that the German government is examining the prospect of contributing to the financing of the National Water Carrier Project.
The German government had committed, during its annual talks with the Jordanian government on development cooperation for the current year, which was held in October 2021, to allocate 483.69 million euros as new aid to the Kingdom in terms of grants, technical assistance and soft loans, he noted.
The aid will be directed to finance priority development projects and to support the Jordanian response plan to the Syrian crisis.
