AMMAN — Jordan on Thursday inaugurated photovoltaic plants in Azraq funded by the Spanish government.

The government-owned projects, implemented under a turnkey contractual basis, will be operated, administered and maintained by Samra Electric Power Company, while the National Electric Power Company will operate and maintain power lines and the transformer substation.

Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif and Spanish Ambassador to Jordan Santiago Cabanas Ansorena inaugurated the two projects. The first was implemented through a debt swap agreement with Spain at a cost of JD3.5 million, and has a capacity of 2.17 megawatt-peak.

The second project, implemented at a cost of 6 million euros (around JD4.8 million) through a Spanish soft loan, has a capacity of 3 megawatt-peak.
