AMMAN — Jordanian photographers will take to the streets of Amman on Saturday to document daily life in the capital as part of a photography marathon.

The event is organised by FRAME.LIFE, L’Asilo, Sylabs, 15-38 Réseau Med, Enzima, Jordan Pioneers, and Institute Apis with the aim of promoting the culture of photography in the Kingdom, Jordan Pioneer’s Project Director Ghada Dahabreh said.

“The idea has been already implemented in other parts of the world, but this is the first time that is held in Amman,” Dahabreh told The Jordan Times over the phone on Thursday.

“We wanted to put Jordan on the international map and promote photography,” she added.

Dahabreh said seven cities are hosting this marathon: Amman, Beirut, Algiers, Marseille, Palermo, Naples and Ljubljana.

She noted that 35 people are expected to take part in the photography event in Amman.

“Downtown Amman, Jabal Amman and Jabal Luweibdeh will be the venues of the marathon, but participants are allowed to go to other locations,” she explained.

“Photographers will receive specific words and they will take photos in connection to them. They are required to deliver 12 photos.”

The finalists will be selected by a jury based on their collection of 12 photos, not for individual photos, according to a statement from the organisers.

The finalists whose collection receives the highest number of online votes will be awarded $300 courtesy of FRAME.LIFE while the second place winner will be awarded $200.
