‘Pharmacist attacked, robbed by three assailants in Amman’

AMMAN — The Jordan Pharmacists Association (JPhA) on Tuesday condemned a reported attack and robbery targeting one of its members a day earlier.

“We strongly condemn attacks on our members and members of other associations,” JPhA President Ahmad Balasmeh said.

Tayseer Younes was reportedly attacked in the garage of his house in an Amman neighbourhood at around 11pm, Balasmeh told The Jordan Times.

“Three hooded men approached the 45-year-old pharmacist, while he was getting out of his car and pointed guns at him,” he added.

The three men hit Younes “on his head and other parts of his body with their guns and robbed him of JD4,000 and some cheques”, according to Balasmeh.

“The three then fled to an unknown destination,” the JPhA president said, adding that the association is following up closely with police on the investigation.

“We do hope that the suspects will be arrested soon and that they will be severely punished because attacks on professional association members, including the recent murder of a surgeon from Al Bashir Hospital, have become worrying,” noted Balasmeh, who is currently president of the Professional Associations Council.

On Sunday, Mohammad Abu Risheh, 43, was stabbed to death near his home in Shafa Badran by a 27-year-old alleged suspect, who reportedly held a grudge over an old dispute regarding the victim’s treatment of one of his daughters.

Younes is currently being treated at a hospital and listed in fair condition, a second JPhA source told The Jordan Times.

Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi was unavailable to comment on the incident.
