Petra to receive Jordanians during eid free of charge

AMMAN – The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) has decided to exempt Jordanians from entrance fees into Petra city during the Eid Al Fitr holiday, expected to start June 5 or 6.

According to the PDTRA, the ancient city of Petra has seen active tourist movement since the beginning of 2019; in the first four months of 2019, the number of visitors to Petra increased to 377,385 visitors, compared with 292,334 for the same period in 2018.

A total of 138,110 people visited Petra during April of this year, which is the highest number ever in the history of the ancient city as a tourist attraction, and the PDTRA seeks to increase the number of the visitors during the eid holiday.

The chief commissioner of the PDTRA, Suleiman Farajat, said in a statement that the increase requires more development and investment projects in Petra’s tourism infrastructure and services to extend the visitors’ stay.

He added that this decision encouraged local tourists to visit Petra and to enjoy its monuments, according to the statement, carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Wednesday.

Exemption from ticket fees includes entry to the ancient city, the use of tourist and health facilities inside, entry to the new Petra Museum and watching the folklore and artistic performances organised by the authority during the eid holiday, according to Farajat

Entrance to the ancient city during the eid holiday will be between 6am until 6pm, while entry to the Petra Museum is available from 8:30am to 10pm.
