AMMAN — A Royal Decree was issued on Tuesday adjourning the extraordinary session of Parliament as of Friday.
However, the legislature will convene for another extraordinary session after the Eid holiday in early August to complete three key bills that need to be endorsed, according to House Speaker Atef Tarawneh.
He told The Jordan Times over the phone that the three remaining draft laws — independence of the judiciary, renewable energy and tax — “need an entire session”.
Tarawneh said the House wrapped up 10 of the 13 bills listed for the session, which started on June 1.
Among the laws endorsed are administrative justice, the councils of non-Muslim religious sects and juveniles, among others.
The deputies will meet Wednesday to vote on the private-public partnership draft law, the speaker said.
A joint session has been decided, and is expected to be scheduled for the next session, after the Senate and the Lower House could not reach a compromise over certain provisions of the civil service pension bill.
