AMMAN — Education Minister Wajih Oweis on Sunday met with Canadian Minister of International Development Harjit Sajjan and discussed ways to bolster cooperation in a number of areas, including the Syrian refugee crisis and Canadian expertise in vocational education, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Executive Director of the Middle East Development Programme at Global Affairs Canada Sean Boyd, and Canadian Ambassador to Jordan Donica Pottie, Oweis said that the infrastructure in Jordan bears great pressure following the Syrian refugee crisis, especially in the education and health sectors.

He expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the Canadian government, underlining the two countries’ historical ties.

Oweis voiced the ministry's keenness to use technology in education and to benefit from global expertise and success stories related to educational development.

The Jordanian minister thanked Pottie for her role in furthering cooperation between the two countries.

Sajjan lauded Jordan’s role in hosting refugees, expressing Canada’s readiness to continue providing support to Jordan in shouldering the effects of asylum.
