AMMAN — The final statement of the meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) member states, held in Tehran, highlighted the importance of the historical Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Head of the Jordanian delegation MP Hussein Harasis, who participated in the extraordinary meeting of the union-affiliated Palestine Committee, said that the final statement highly praised the role of the Hashemite Custodianship in protecting holy sites, the legal and historical status quo and the Arab identity of these sites.
In this regard, he stressed that the Jordan-run Jerusalem and Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the sole authorised body to administrate all the affairs of Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Harasis also met with heads and representatives of the parliaments of Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Qatar, Libya and Turkey, who stressed the major and effective role of His Majesty King Abdullah in defending the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem.
