Number of ICT graduates in current academic year stands at 7,247 — int@j

AMMAN — The total number of ICT graduates in the 2020/2021 academic year in Jordan stands at 7,247, a study by the Information and Communication Technology Association of Jordan (int@j) showed on Sunday.

In its study, int@j listed the specialisations of IT, digital archiving, library and information management, graphic design, management information systems, and computer information systems, according to an int@j statement.

The study revealed that during this scholastic year, public universities graduated 4,371 students, where the percentages of ICT graduates to the total number of graduates stand at some 8 per cent.

As for the 18 private universities and colleges in Jordan, a total of 2,543 students graduated in 2021, with the rate of ICT graduates standing at 12 per cent of the total.

As for the graduates according to governorates hosting universities, universities in Amman accounted for the biggest share with 2,866 graduates at 40 per cent, followed by Irbid with 1,398 students, Balqa with 904, Zarqa with 810, Mafraq with 394, Karak with 267, Maan with 161, Ajloun with 156, Tafileh with 127, Madaba with 95, Aqaba with 36, and Jerash with 33 graduates.

As for MSc graduates in ICT specialisations, the study showed that Amman graduates of MSc degrees totalled 156, followed by Karak with 100, Irbid with 64 and Balqa with 56 graduates. 

int@j CEO Eid Sweiss said that the study aims at helping companies  in the sector and provide them with a clear roadmap to identify their future plans related to work in governorates. 

Sweiss added that the number of ICT graduates is considered acceptable when considering the total number of graduates in the Kingdom, stressing that these graduates need training to acquire the necessary skills for the labour market.
