AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) has handled more than 15,216 drug-related cases since the beginning of the year, compared to 13,950 cases in 2017, AND Director Brig. Gen. Anwar Tarawneh said on Wednesday.  According to Tarawneh, the cases involved 2,522 drug promotional cases and 12,694 drug use cases, during which 20,763 individuals were arrested, including 1,523 non-Jordanians.

He also said that the age group of 18 to 27 years old constituted 48 per cent of the cases AND dealt with, however there was a 41 per cent drop in the number of university students involved in drug cases this year compared to last year.

Tarawneh made the remarks during a workshop, held by the Public Security Department and hosted at AND, for journalists working at electronic news sites, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
