Non-profit organisations receive JD26.6 million in foreign funding in H1

AMMAN — The volume of Cabinet-approved foreign funding for Jordanian associations, non-profit companies, and cooperative unions reached JD26.6 million during the first half of 2024, allocated to implement 175 projects nationwide.

According to data from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, non-profit companies received the largest share of the funding, totalling 51.8 per cent, while registered associations garnered 48 per cent, and cooperative societies received 0.2 per cent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The data showed that 13.8 million was allocated to 41 non-profit companies for 50 projects, with an average funding of JD280,000 per project. 

Furthermore, 92 associations were awarded JD12.8 million for 124 projects, averaging JD103,000 per project and one cooperative society received JD52,000 for a single project.

Funding priorities were notably directed towards the youth sector, social protection, economic development, and women's empowerment, the data showed.

The youth sector received JD6.54 million, making up 24.6 per cent of the total funding, followed by the social protection sector with JD5.658 million or 21.2 per cent.

 The economic development sector received JD2.146 million, constituting 8 per cent, while women's empowerment was allocated JD 1.902 million, or 7.2 per cent.

Sectors such as justice, governance, information technology, and agriculture were given lower priority by both civil society organisations and the donor community.

Among the donors, the United States topped the list, contributing 42.1 per cent of the foreign funding, while the European Union followed with 9.9 per cent, and Germany provided 8.1 per cent, Petra reported.
