AMMAN — Former president of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta delivered a lecture on Sunday at the Jordan Media Institute (JMI) in the presence of HRH Princess Rym Ali, according to a JMI statement released Wednesday.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner spoke about his country’s independence process from Indonesia, which successfully concluded in 2002, when he was in power, without Indonesian civilian bloodshed.
Ramos-Horta expressed admiration for Jordan’s ability to preserve peace and security despite adverse circumstances, commending its efforts in peacekeeping in several Timor-Leste areas.
At the end of the lecture, attended by academics and JMI students, the princess honoured Ramos-Horta with the plaque of JMI.
