AMMAN — There are no contaminated Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs in the local market, according to the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA).
In a statement made available to The Jordan Times, JFDA Director General Nizar Mheidat stressed that Kinder chocolate eggs available in the Kingdom’s markets are not imported from Belgium, and are not linked to the Kinder products that were recalled in many countries over a salmonella outbreak.
“The JFDA has investigated the products available in the local market to ensure they were free of contaminated products,” he added.
Mheidat pointed out that the JFDA has collected samples of Kinder chocolate manufactured elsewhere, and the samples were free of salmonella.
In cases like this, when risks to public health are detected in the food chain, countries that have received such products are alerted via the RASFF-the rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, initiated by the EU, he said.
The JFDA called on the public to contact the administration in case of any inquiry or complaint, via 117114, info@jfda.jo, or WhatsApp number 0795632000.
However, the scare of contaminated Kinder eggs has still raised concern among some Jordanians.
Zain Zaid, a mother of three, told The Jordan Times on Saturday, that the moment she read the news about the outbreak being associated with some Kinder products, she threw all her Kinder products, so her children will not eat them.
Mohammad Kayalni, a father of two, said over the phone “It is normal for people to be worried, especially if they recently had a Kinder product,” adding that he already stopped consuming their products.
