AMMAN — The National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR) on Sunday urged the international community to immediately halt the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

The NCHR also called for an end to the grave violations perpetrated against the medical sector in Gaza, including attacks on medical personnel and the obstruction of medical aid, adding that such actions are considered war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide against the Palestinian people, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The centre also asserted that the right to health is a fundamental part of human rights in its broadest sense, as guaranteed by international human rights standards, including the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights ratified by Jordan.

In a statement issued on Sunday, coinciding with World Health Day, the centre highlighted that the Ministry of Health’s strategy for the years 2023-2025 encompasses expanding insurance coverage, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of financial resource management to control and rationalise spending and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of digital transformation and information technology to broaden healthcare automation services.

The centre also said that it has been monitoring the state of the right to health by conducting field visits to numerous hospitals and health centres to evaluate the health services provided to individuals.

It also noted that it has put forth necessary recommendations in its successive annual reports, including increasing the proportion of spending on primary healthcare, the need to equip hospitals and health centres with adequate specialised medical staff, and the need to provide environmental facilities in various hospitals and health centres for persons with disabilities and the elderly.
