AMMAN — Over 40 wanted suspects were arrested by the police for various offences in the Kingdom in the past 48 hours, a police official said.
“We have arrested 41 suspects in the past two days who were wanted for several criminal offences,” Police Spokesperson Col. Amer Sartawi said.
Sartawi told The Jordan Times that the arrests are part of a nationwide campaign that aims “to strengthen the community’s security and safety”.
The police official added that traffic officers also issued 15 citations for dangerous offences over the past 48 hours.
“We have tasked officers from special traffic units to follow up on dangerous traffic violations and reckless driving,” Sartawi explained.
The police official added that the traffic officers also ordered the seizure of several vehicles and “motorcycles that belong to the violators”.
“We urge the public to report any suspicious activity or reckless driving to the police because our main concern is the safety and security of our people,” Sartawi stressed.
The number to call in such incidents is 911, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) statement.
All the arrested suspects were referred to the relevant judicial authorities for further questioning and indictment, according to the PSD statement.
