Mulki due in Baghdad to revive stalled plans

AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki will head a ministerial delegation to Iraq on Monday, where he is scheduled to meet with his Iraqi counterpart Haider Al Abadi and other senior officials.

Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said that the visit aims to develop the "deep-rooted" bilateral relations between Jordan and Iraq and to discuss cooperation in various fields.

In several planned meetings, the two sides will discuss resuming work on previously approved joint projects, such as the twin oil and gas pipeline from the Iraqi city of Basra to Aqaba sea port, the minister said.

Momani, who is also the government spokesperson, added that the Jordanian delegation will discuss developing trade relations, which have been affected by the security situation in Iraq, leading to a closure in the Karama-Treibil border crossing that has harmed trade between the two neighbours. 

Discussions will also cover economic, trade, transport, customs, and health cooperation, the minister noted.
