MP questions witnessed 91% response rate during current Lower House’s third year — Rased

AMMAN — MPs submitted a total of 516 questions to the government during the current Lower House’s third year, of which 91 per cent were answered, according to a watchdog’s recent report.

In its report on the performance of the House between November 14, 2018 and October 10, 2019, Rased, the Civil Coalition for Monitoring Elections and the Performance of Elected Councils, said that the Chamber held 35 sessions on 55 working days, during which a total of 31 laws were endorsed.

Between November 14, 2018 and October 10, 2019, deputies submitted 25 queries on various issues to the government, Rased said.

According to Rased, the absence rate of MPs, which is counted at the beginning of each session, increased from an average of 16 absences per session during the House’s first year, to 21 absences in the second year, to finally reach 26 absences in the third year.

During the three years, a total of 83 questions were listed on the House’s agenda, 64 of which were discussed, the report said, adding that 31 of the total questions were directed to the prime minister.

MPs submitted 72 memoranda, the report said, adding that the House’s Palestine and administrative committees were the most active panels during the Lower Chamber’s third year.
