AMMAN — The shift to flexible networks and moving towards electricity interconnection, is no longer an option, but a necessity for modern power systems, Director General of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) Amjad Rawashdeh said on Thursday.
Speaking during the Dead Sea-held Middle East and North Africa-Europe Future Energy Dialogue (MEFED), Rawashdeh reviewed the Kingdom's electricity interconnection projects with the neighbouring countries, including enhancing the Jordanian-Egyptian interconnection system, noting that the current connection has been one of the "oldest and best success stories in the region", according to a statement.
He also highlighted NEPCO's efforts to implement a number of interconnection projects with Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, adding that technical and feasibility studies have been conducted on pumped hydropower storage technology and several smart networks and energy management projects.
