AMMAN — Recent statistics conducted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) revealed that mobile phone penetration among adults in Jordan reached 104.01 per cent during the first quarter of 2022.
The TRC has also announced that the number of mobile phone subscriptions during the same period amounted to around 7.3 million.
Prepaid phone subscriptions accounted for the greatest number of mobile subscriptions, numbering about 5.41 million, while postpaid mobile plans amounted to around 1.89 million subscriptions.
The growth of mobile usage can be attributed to the fact that the devices have become essential tools in people’s lives, Jordanian computer scientist Celina Varouqa told The Jordan Times on Sunday.
“Mobile phones are the first thing we use to access digital services, to communicate, to get work done…” she noted.
According to Bayan Khaled, a Jordanian computer engineer, “the growing proliferation of mobile devices is connected to the surge in mobile data consumption”.
Khaled, who is an employee at one of the Kingdom’s communication service operators, added that flexibility is the reason why the majority of customers prefer prepaid plans. However, she said that postpaid mobile phone subscription customers receive exclusive incentives.
