AMMAN — The Kingdom in the first nine months of 2023 imported 1.276 million mobile phones with a total value of JD111.6 million, the Association of Mobiles and Accessories Investors (Vision) said on Tuesday. The first quarter of the year saw the import of 410,000 mobiles worth JD43 million, while the number in the second quarter reached 342,000 devices worth JD32 million, and the third quarter witnessed the import of 524,000 devices worth JD36.6 million, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing figures by Vision. Ahmad Alloush, president of the association, highlighted a significant decline in imports compared to previous years, as the value of the total imports for 2022 reached JD174 million, marking a decline of 16 per cent compared with 2021. Alloush attributed the decline to the 16 per cent tax imposed on mobile devices, which had a direct impact on the volume of imports and consumer prices.
