AMMAN — The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) on Sunday announced the opening of 34 new classrooms and four sanitation facilities across four schools in Irbid Governorate, a NRC statement said.
Held under the patronage of Education Minister Omar Razzaz and Norwegian Ambassador to Jordan Tone Allers, the ceremony was held in Al Motassem Primary School in Irbid's Al Hoson area.
The new school facilities, which were funded by the Norwegian ministry of foreign affairs in partnership with the ministry, will help relieve the overcrowding of schools and enable more Syrian refugee and Jordanian students to access formal schools in Irbid.
To date, NRC’s education project has handed over 85 classrooms and 12 sanitation facilities across 11 schools and has engaged more than 10,000 children in educational activities. According to Dominiek Benoot, NRC's education project manager.
