Military retirees’ rights ‘will not be affected’ by Social Security Law amendments

AMMAN — A government source on Sunday said that a meeting was held with the Parliamentary Labour Committee over the proposed amendments included in the 2022 draft of the Social Security Law, stressing that the rights of retired military personnel will not be affected by the proposed amendments. 

The source affirmed that maintaining the livelihood of military retirees is a top priority for the government, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The meeting was attended by Minister of Finance Mohamad Al-Ississ, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Minister of Labour Youssef Shamali, and Director General of the Social Security Corporation Mohammad Tarawneh, according to the source. 

All amendments pertaining to the draft law were made in agreement with the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army and security apparatuses to serves the interest of retirees, he said, adding that these amendments were agreed upon by all the concerned parties. 

The source also said that the government will not hesitate to fulfill the due financial obligations under the provisions of the draft law, which stipulate that “the Ministry of Finance shall pay the salaries of military retirees or their entitled heirs in the event of their death, and the Ministry of Finance shall bear all additional obligations required as per the amendments of the law in the event of its approval”.
