AMMAN — Ali Yang, the new Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Representative in Jordan on September 21 visited the Mercy Corps Jordan office and met with Darius Radcliffe, the Country Director, and other key Mercy Corps team members, according to a statement from the international humanitarian organisation.

"Mercy Corps appreciates its longstanding partnership. This remarkable relationship enabled Mercy Corps to execute important initiatives, particularly in Azraq and Za’atari Syrian refugee camps, from which over 12,000 children and 1,000 caregivers have benefitted," Radcliffe said.

Ali emphasised Taipei’s “unwavering commitment” to collaborating with the international community to provide continued help to vulnerable communities in Jordan and the surrounding region.

Through the ISHRAK project: Adolescent Girls' Empowerment Initiative, Mercy Corps provides tailored support to refugee girls and caregivers in Zaatari and Azraq camps by implementing behaviour change strategies that promote gender equality and girls’ empowerment.

The funding from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office enabled Mercy Corps to train girl-educators (15 and 16 years) to reach their younger peers (10-14 years) with reproductive health messaging and girl-friendly spaces where participants can engage in recreational and educational activities, according to the statement.
