Marriages up by 12% in 2021 — report

AMMAN — The Kingdom in 2021 witnessed 76,003 marriages compared with 68,000 marriages in 2020, up by 12 per cent, Chief Islamic Justice Abdul Hafez Rabtah said on Tuesday.
Announcing the 2021 statistical report, Rabtah said that marriages within the age group of under 18 accounted for 10.3 per cent of the total marriages in 2021, according to Al Rai Arabic daily.
The report showed that a total of 8,403 divorce cases were registered in 2021, where the percentage of divorces among marriages in 2021 stood at 5.8 per cent.
The report also showed that a total of JD1.614 million was disbursed from the alimony fund to divorced women, children and parents. The percentage of marriages among those who are below the age of 18 decreased by 1.2 per cent compared with 2020.
