March organised in downtown Amman in solidarity with Gaza

AMMAN — Around 200 Jordanians rallied in downtown Amman on Friday in solidarity with Gaza. 

Participants waved Jordanian and Palestinian flags, wore Palestinian scarves and held banners denouncing the latest Israeli aggression on the strip, which came to a halt following the extension of a truce between Israel and Hamas. 

More than 1,900 Palestinians have been killed in over a month of Israeli attacks on Gaza, the majority of whom were civilians, according to the UN. 

Before the beginning of the demonstration, participants listened to the Friday sermon and performed the noon prayer. 

Abu Hamzah, one of the demonstrators, said the Palestinian delegation has to be cautious during the negotiations with the Israeli side so that they can obtain tangible results. 

Amer, another demonstrator, agreed with Abu Hamzah, stressing that the Palestinian delegates have to insist on Hamas’ demands.

The Palestinian negotiators want an end to the eight-year Israeli blockade on Gaza, an extension of the strip’s maritime and security boundaries and the construction of a seaport and the reopening of an airport in the enclave, according to Reuters. 

Amer, who did not give his full name, also called on Arabs to support Gazans and stand with them amidst the abject conditions Palestinians in the coastal enclave are dealing with. 

Noting that he is with the Palestinian resistance and Hamas, Abu Ibrahim said he believes he will one day be able to return to a liberated Palestine. 

He added that the resistance in Gaza will be victorious. 

“The main sign of this is that Israel agreed to extend the truce several times.” 

Also on Friday, residents of Tafileh, 180km southwest of Amman, organised a rally in support of Gaza, calling for boycotting Israeli products and standing with the people of Gaza against the occupation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

On Saturday, members of the Jordanian Geologists Association staged a sit-in at the Professional Associations Complex in Amman’s Shmeisani neighbourhood  in solidarity with Gaza, commending Jordanians’ support for their “brothers and sisters” in the strip, according to Petra.
