AMMAN — Police on Thursday announced that they were searching for a man who reportedly stabbed a traffic police officer in Maan late on Wednesday night.
The traffic officer was patrolling in a street in Maan Governorate, 220 kilometres south of the capital, when the suspect “approached him and stabbed him, then fled”, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
“Our investigations indicated that the suspect was angry because the Criminal Investigations Department had arrested his brother,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
The police official said that the “suspect randomly targeted the police officer because he wanted to attack any law enforcement official to get revenge”.
Sartawi added that the suspect is known to the authorities “and that it is a matter of time before he is arrested”.
The police officer, who was stabbed in the chest, was rushed to a nearby hospital, a second source said.
“The officer underwent treatment for a superficial stab wound and was released from hospital on Thursday,” the second source told The Jordan Times.
