AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Thursday began questioning a suspect in connection with the alleged murder of his wife a day earlier in an eastern Amman neighbourhood, official sources said.
Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi told The Jordan Times on Wednesday that police received information that a man murdered his wife over a domestic dispute and later turned himself in to police.
A post-mortem conducted at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine indicated the victim died of strangulation, the institute’s director Majid Shamayleh said.
“The victim, in her 20s, died of manual strangulation and we did not detect any additional bruises on her body,” Shamayleh told The Jordan Times.
A second senior source told The Jordan Times that the suspect was “released from detention recently”.
In his initial testimonies to authorities, the suspect allegedly confessed to “strangling his wife with his hands and assaulting his mother-in-law following a heated argument,” according to the second source.
The mother-in-law’s medical condition was listed as good, the second source stated.
The criminal court prosecutor will summon the family members of the victim and the suspect for further questioning, the second source said.
The suspect was ordered detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre by the criminal court prosecutor for 15 days pending further investigation.
