AMMAN — Officials on Saturday said they were questioning a man who reportedly murdered his step-mother and injured his father in one of the Kingdom's governorates over the weekend.

The victims were reportedly stabbed by the suspect with a sharp object while at their home in Central Badia on Friday night, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

"The suspect then fled the scene and was arrested on Saturday morning," Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The two victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where the woman died of her injuries, according to Sartawi.

The victim's husband survived the stabbing and is currently being treated at the hospital, the police official added.

A senior judicial source told The Jordan Times that Criminal Court Prosecutor Ishaq Abu Awad is expected to start questioning the suspect soon.

"Abu Iwad will also question the victims' family members to learn more about the incident and the motives behind it," the judicial source added.

Investigators are currently questioning the suspect's siblings "who were present at the time of the stabbing incident," according to the judicial source.

The victim's body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, the judicial source maintained.

The judicial source added that Abu Awad also ordered that blood and tissue samples be sent to the criminal lab for further analysis.
