AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Saturday charged a 27-year-old man with manslaughter in connection with the alleged stabbing death of his younger sibling over the weekend, official sources said.
The suspect reportedly stabbed his 24-year-old brother on Friday evening around Iftar time following a heated argument with the victim, a senior judicial source said.
“The two lived next to each other and they argued about their children who were screaming and playing,” the senior judicial source said.
The source added that the argument became heated and “the suspect grabbed a knife, while the victim grabbed a wooden stick and they started fighting”.
“The suspect stabbed his brother once in the chest, killing him instantly,” the judicial source said, quoting initial testimonies of the suspect in front of Criminal Court Prosecutor Afif Khawaldeh.
The suspect expressed his regrets over the stabbing incident, a second source said.
“The suspect told Khawaldeh that he did not expect things to get out of hand and that he stabbed his brother in the heat of the moment,” the second source said.
Khawaldeh ordered the suspect detained for 15 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigations.
