AMMAN — Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of a man who allegedly stabbed and killed his relative in Jiza District's Um Al Amad area a day earlier.
“We have a suspect in this murder and we are currently questioning him to learn more of the motive,” Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
The police official told The Jordan Times that the suspect confessed to the murder and re-enacted it in front of the Criminal Court prosecutor and investigators.
“The suspect led us to the dagger he used in the murder, which he hid in a place not far from the crime scene,” Sartawi said.
The 25-year-old victim was found murdered under a tree in a forest area, and coroners at the scene established that he was killed in a different location, according to National Institute of Forensic Medicine Director Kais Koussous.
A government autopsy indicated that the victim died of internal bleeding as a result of a fatal stab wound to the stomach that penetrated the kidney, Koussous told The Jordan Times.
“We also found strangulation marks on the victim’s neck and several stab wounds on different parts of the body,” the pathologist said.
The suspect was ordered detained for 15 days at a correctional and rehabilitation centre pending further investigation into the incident.
