AMMAN — Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) Ziad Saideh on Monday announced that Madaba has become the first city in the Kingdom to complete the replacement of all electricity meters with smart meters. Saideh said that the EMRC, in line with the Economic Modernisation Vision, directed electricity distribution companies to implement the smart meter installation project, aiming to accelerate the replacement of all old traditional electricity meters with smart ones for subscribers across all sectors of the Kingdom. Saideh underscored the importance of smart meters for the future of energy, including enhancing reliability, reducing technical and non-technical losses, and minimising faults. Saideh added that by the end of 2023, over 900,000 smart electricity meters had been installed, constituting approximately 37 per cent of the total electricity meters used in the Kingdom across all sectors.
