Lower House Speaker reiterates support for South Africa’s genocide case against Israel

AMMAN – Lower House Speaker Ahmed Safadi on Tuesday reiterated the Chamber's support for South Africa's genocide case filed against Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). 

During a meeting with Ambassador of South Africa Tselane Mokuena, Safadi stressed that this stance is in line with the legacy of the descendants of the late leader Nelson Mandela, who have historically stood up for the just cause of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights in the face of the "Zionist war machine and massacres", according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Safadi and Mokuena emphasised the shared commitment of Jordan and South Africa to the Palestinian cause, affirming their united stance in supporting the Palestinians until they attain their legitimate rights. They strongly denounced the atrocities targeting civilians, obstructing the delivery of crucial aid, and escalating into what they deemed as a grave form of genocide.

Mokuena expressed South Africa's keen interest in His Majesty King Abdullah's speeches, which have conveyed messages of support for the Palestinians and called for an end to the war on Gaza and the Palestinian territories.

"The war is not against Gaza, but all Palestinians", she added.

Mokuena also acknowledged Jordan's assistance efforts, particularly the field hospital in Gaza, and reminded that South Africa stands with Jordan in defence of the Palestinians. 

The lawsuit filed at the International Court of Justice aims to stop the targeting of young people, children and women, she said.

During the meeting, Mokuena acquainted Safadiand MPs with the details of the lawsuit, noting that a number of its documents were based on Jordanian records.
