AMMAN — The Lower House on Wednesday approved amendments to the draft Social Security Law, allowing the private sector to reduce the percentage of monthly contributions for retirement, disability and death insurance for Jordanian nationals under 30 years old who haven’t previously subscribed to social security, reducing contributions at 50 per cent.
The bill also regulates the legal status of military pensioners before they turn 45, and adds an extra year of service for employees in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) and security agencies who were still on duty on June 10, 2020, in a bid to grant more incentives for military personnel and injured servicemen.
The bill also covers agricultural workers in work injury and maternity insurance. The draft law, which will take effect as of the beginning of this year, also amends the mechanism for appointing the deputy chairman of board of directors of the Social Security Corporation and the deputy chairman of board of Social Security Investment Fund. MPs rejected the deletion of the text that specifies the minister of labour as the chairman of the corporation’s board of directors.
