AMMAN — The five-day suspension of water supply from the Disi pipeline last week caused many citizens to bear additional costs to fill their water tanks.
The Water Ministry and Water Authority suspended water from the Disi pipeline for five days to conduct the annual maintenance works.
“It is really difficult when water supply is low, and at the same time the economic conditions are difficult. The Jordanian citizen cannot afford any additional expenses at the moment,” Saad Subhi who lives in Marj Al Hamam area in Amman, told The Jordan Times on Saturday.
Subbi added that on Thursday he had to pay JD30 to fill his three water storage tanks, with each tank measuring two cubic metres.
“Usually the prices are less during normal days, some water tank suppliers raise their prices and take advantage when there is water shortage,” he added.
Shayma Mahmoud, who lives in Tla’ Al Ali area in Amman, told The Jordan Times that: “Water is usually delivered to the neighbourhood where we live on Mondays, which means it will take two more days until it comes.”
She noted that she only washed her laundry and sheets once last week, because she could not afford to fill her water tanks.
