Labour minister calls for pursuing efforts to fight child labour

AMMAN — Labour Minister Ali Ghezawi on Friday stressed the importance of continuing efforts to combat child labour, the Jordan news Agency, Petra, reported.
During a regional workshop on child labour, held in cooperation with the International Labour Organisation , the minister highlighted the necessity of exchanging expertise among Arab countries on efforts to fight child labour.
According to statistics on child labour in the Kingdom, the number of working children amounted up to 75,000 in 2016, of which 45,000 work in hazardous jobs, and 12 per cent are Syrians with wages reaching no more than $240 per month, Petra added.
