DEIR ABI SAID — Awqaf Minister Hayel Dawood on Thursday inaugurated a project to generate power from solar energy at the Grand Huthaifa Bin Al Yaman Mosque in Ashrafiyeh, in Irbid’s Kurah District.
The ministry supported the project, which was implemented by the mosque’s committee.
Dawood stressed the ministry’s support for establishing similar projects in mosques to reduce their power bills.
Kurah District Awqaf Director Munjid Shraideh said the project, which cost JD12,000, produces nine kilowatts of electricity daily.
He added that Civil Defence Department Grand Mufti Mohammad Ghoul also contributed to the funding, noting that there are 12 other mosques in the district that have similar plans.
