AMMAN — The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Amman, in cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), held a seminar for mutual cooperation between the two countries on Thursday.
Since 1974, many Korean companies have invested in Jordan, using their cutting-edge expertise to contribute to fulfiling Jordan’s national goal of increasing infrastructure. Now, power plants in the Kingdom that were built by Korean companies cover about 20 per cent of the country’s total electricity capacity, according to a statement from the Korean Embassy.
Jordan is a gateway for other Korean companies, such as Samsung and LG in the Levant region. In this context, and in celebration of the 60th diplomatic ties between Korea and Jordan, this seminar, which was organised by the Amman office of KOTRA, an investment promotion organisation operated by the Korean government, aims at enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries and increasing investment opportunities for Korean companies in Jordan, according to the statement.
At the beginning of the event, Zaher Qatarneh, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Investment, explained the country’s new investment law, which was enacted this year. Then, the Jordan Customs Deparment gave a presentation on the new tarriff system that took effect in this February, followed by the Korean Southern Power Company (KOSPO) - Jordan, which shared its business experience in Jordan.
About 40 Jordanian government officials and businessmen in Jordan attended the seminar and exchanged information and ideas to facilitate ecoonomic cooperation. Among them were members of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce from various industrial sectors, as well as Korean energy and home electronics companies, the statement said.
