Kingdom saw 1,405 electricity thefts in February — EMRC

AMMAN — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) announced on Tuesday that its personnel documented a total of 937 electricity thefts in February, with electricity distribution companies detecting 468 thefts, totalling 1,405 cases.
In a statement sent to The Jordan Times, EMRC Chief Commissioner Farouq Hiyari said that 577 thefts were registered under the jurisdiction of the Jordan Electric Power Company, which distributes electricity to Amman, Zarqa, Balqa and Madaba.
He added that 241 cases were detected within the Irbid District Electricity Company’s jurisdiction, comprising the northern governorates of Irbid, Mafraq, Jerash and Ajloun, alongside 119 cases within the Electricity Distribution Company’s jurisdiction, covering the southern governorates of Aqaba, Maan, Karak and Tafileh.
Hiyari added that 657 electricity theft lawsuits were filed in February, with courts issuing final rulings on 396, according to the statement.
