MUWAQAR — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday visited Petra Engineering Industries Company, a major Jordanian manufacturer of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment.

Established in 1987, the leading national company employs 2,000 Jordanians in industrial, management and technical areas, while its exports, which reach a wide range of world markets, amounted to around $110 million last year.

During the visit, the King was acquainted with up-to-date production technologies used at the company’s factories and production units.

King Abdullah also toured a photo exhibition showcasing the firm’s history, development and various products, and was briefed by the company’s director on its goals and future plans to expand investments and cover several new areas.

His Majesty toured the company’s factories, including a plant where sheet metal is cut and shaped into specific designs.

He also saw the automated painting line and the central unit assembly plant, where the bodies of air conditioners and cooling equipment are built, and refrigerating materials, electric panels and copper coils are installed to reach the assembly stage.

After that, refrigerating gas is added to the devices, which then go through efficiency assurance tests before being sent to market.

King Abdullah listened to a briefing on the central air-conditioning unit manufacturing plant, which is operated in line with international standards.

Moreover, the King, who was accompanied by Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh and King’s Office Director Jafar Hassan, toured an exhibition showcasing air conditioners used in large buildings, hotels, commercial centres and hospitals.

Established with a capital of around $150 million, the company’s premises cover an area of around 300 dunums in Muwaqqar and Mafraq.

The company’s products have reached some 50 world markets, including the US.

Omar Abu Wishah, the company’s deputy chairman, said 300 of its engineers are graduates of local universities, who design “high-quality, environment-friendly” products used around the world.

“We are proud that the words ‘made in Jordan’ are present in the Empire State Building [in New York],” he told Petra, adding that the company’s products are also used by NASA and major hospitals and hotels in Europe and South Africa.

The King’s visit is a major event that will drive the company to launch further efforts towards globalisation, Abu Wishah said, adding that the firm will work to increase the number of its engineers and technicians in Jordan and abroad to 5,000 over the next five years.
