King, USAID administrator discuss Jordan-US partnership in development sector

Washington, DC — His Majesty King Abdullah, in Washington, DC, met with U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power and discussed the Jordan-US partnership in the development sector, particularly efforts to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on various sectors, in order to start recovery.

At the meeting, held on Monday and attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, a number of USAID projects in Jordan were discussed, in addition to programmes the agency implements in water, development, economy, education, and healthcare, as well as supporting youth and women.

His Majesty expressed his appreciation for USAID's support for Jordan's various programmes to alleviate the economic and social ramifications of the pandemic and prepare for the gradual recovery from its impact, in addition to the United States' efforts in delivering the latest shipment of COVID-19 vaccines to Jordan.

For her part, USAID Administrator Samantha Power expressed appreciation of Jordan's efforts in hosting refugees and providing healthcare and education to them throughout the pandemic.

Just ahead of the King's visit to Washington, the first tranche of a US cash grant valued at USD600 million, was made to Jordan through USAID.

This first tranche of a total $845 million grant falls under the US economic assistance programme for Jordan in 2021. 

Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador in Washington, DC, Dina Kawar attended the meeting.
