King urges expedited efforts to boost human rights advocacy

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received a copy of the annual report on human rights in Jordan for 2015, compiled by the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR).

President of the centre’s board of trustees, Mohammad Al Bakhit, presented the document to the King, which is customary practice, according to a Royal Court statement.

During the meeting, His Majesty stressed the importance of building upon achievements made in the field of human rights and boosting public awareness of the issue. He also underlined the importance of benefiting from the recommendations of the NCHR to deliver justice to all and protect their right to equality. 

The King said that it is important to maintain cooperation between the centre and the government to enhance the human rights situation in Jordan.

This is especially significant regarding the need to accelerate the implementation of the Comprehensive National Plan for Human Rights 2016-2025. 

King Abdullah voiced his appreciation of the efforts exerted by the workers at the NCHR to follow up on human rights status in the Kingdom and related issues with total impartiality, highlighting the importance of upgrading the capacities of the centre to continue carrying out its mandate, and applying the best international practices
in the field. 

During the meeting, attended by the centre’s chief commissioner, Mousa Breizat, Bakhit outlined the main findings of the report and the approach followed in processing and following up on the cases it deals with, before forwarding them to the concerned authorities.
