AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday received UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi at Al Husseiniya Palace, according to a statement from the Royal Court.

The meeting, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein, covered cooperation between Jordan and UNHCR, as well as means of bolstering efforts to continue providing services to refugees and supporting host communities, the statement said.

King Abdullah stressed the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards host countries, especially in light of challenges related to global food security.

For his part, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Grandi expressed UNHCR’s gratitude for the hospitality Jordan and Jordanians are showing to Syrian refugees, noting that UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, will continue to support the Kingdom and advocate for international support as refugees and host communities face increasing economic challenges.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan attended the meeting, noted the statement.
